An eye examination clinic was held today, 27th November, 2022, at Ramanalayam which attracted a large number of local residents living around the Ashram. Dr Chandrakumar, a renowned eye surgeon in Jaffna and his team of about 10 doctors and technical staff from the STS Hospital in Jaffna attended to almost 90 people, mostly elders, who came for testing and treatment. The team brought with them modern testing equipment and the camp lasted for over four hours starting from 2 pm.
Facilities for professional eye treatment are few in Jaffna and patients usually have to go long distances for even simple testing. Such facilities in the vicinity of the Ashram are extremely limited. For many of the poor, living near the Ashram, such testing and treatment are unaffordable. Those who attended were extremely happy to receive the treatment and many were provided with free reading glasses by Dr Chandrakumar and his team.
Dr Jeyarathan Pooranalingam, an Australian, originally from the village of Varuththalaivilan was instrumental in organising the medical team and meeting the costs for all the assistance offered today. Drs Yarlene and Yoheswaran, who serve the community at the Ashram on each 3rd Sunday of the month also assisted the camp today.
